The Ruger Super Redhawk® Alaskan® Model 5302 is a compact, heavy-duty double-action revolver chambered in .480 Ruger, designed to put big-bore power into a highly maneuverable package. Featuring a 2.50-inch cold hammer-forged barrel, six-round capacity, satin stainless-steel construction, Hogue® Tamer™ Monogrip®, and adjustable sights, the Alaskan 5302 is built around Ruger’s exceptionally strong Super Redhawk platform.
Despite its compact dimensions, the Super Redhawk Alaskan uses Ruger’s strong extended frame, with additional metal incorporated into the top strap, sidewalls, and barrel-mounting areas. This reinforced construction is specifically engineered to withstand the demands of powerful big-game handgun cartridges such as the .480 Ruger.
Model 5302 features a 2.50-inch cold hammer-forged barrel with a 1:18" right-hand twist and six grooves. Ruger’s cold hammer-forging process produces precise rifling designed for accuracy, durability, and straightforward cleaning. The short barrel keeps overall length to just 7.62 inches, giving the Alaskan its distinctive compact profile.
The revolver is manufactured from corrosion-resistant stainless steel with a Satin Stainless finish. Ruger pairs the stainless construction with a Hogue Tamer Monogrip, which incorporates an internal recoil cushion beneath the web of the shooter’s hand to help manage the recoil generated by powerful loads. The peg-style grip frame also accommodates compatible replacement grips.
A major component of the Super Redhawk design is Ruger’s triple-locking cylinder. The cylinder locks into the frame at the front, rear, and bottom, providing positive alignment and dependable operation. Model 5302 provides a full six-round capacity despite its large .480 Ruger chambering.
For sighting, the 5302 is equipped with a replaceable-insert ramp front sight and adjustable rear sight. The adjustable rear provides the ability to regulate the sight picture for different ammunition and shooting distances.
Ruger also incorporates its transfer-bar safety mechanism, which helps protect against accidental discharge by preventing the hammer from directly contacting the firing pin unless the trigger is deliberately pulled.
At 44 ounces, the Ruger Super Redhawk Alaskan 5302 has substantial mass for such a short revolver. Its combination of .480 Ruger chambering, six-round capacity, 2.5-inch barrel, reinforced stainless-steel frame, and recoil-reducing Hogue grip makes it one of the most distinctive big-bore configurations in Ruger’s revolver lineup.
