The Ruger American Rifle Generation II Standard Model 46909 is a .223 Remington bolt-action rifle featuring Ruger’s redesigned Gen II stock system, 20-inch cold hammer-forged spiral-fluted barrel, 10-round AR-style magazine, Gun Metal Gray Cerakote finish, threaded muzzle with factory radial-port muzzle brake, Marksman Adjustable trigger, three-position safety, and factory-installed Picatinny scope base. Ruger confirms this exact configuration as Model 46909 / UPC 736676469093.

Chambered in .223 Remington, Model 46909 uses a 20-inch medium-contour barrel with deep spiral fluting. Ruger states that the fluting reduces weight toward the muzzle to improve balance without sacrificing barrel stiffness or accuracy. The barrel has a 1:8" right-hand twist with five grooves, making this a particularly versatile .223 Remington configuration.

The muzzle is threaded 1/2"-28 and comes from the factory with a radial-port muzzle brake. Ruger applies Gun Metal Gray Cerakote to the barrel, muzzle brake, receiver, and bolt handle for increased durability and easier maintenance.

An important feature of Model 46909 is its magazine system. The rifle uses a 10-round AR-style detachable magazine, rather than the flush-fit or AI-style magazines found on some other American Gen II chamberings. Ruger includes one magazine with the rifle.

The rifle is fitted with Ruger’s Gray Splatter Gen II American stock. Its textured splatter finish provides additional grip without creating an overly sharp or abrasive surface. A soft rubber recoil pad incorporates progressively collapsing geometry designed to reduce felt recoil and features a rounded heel for easier shouldering.

Stock fit can be adjusted from 12" to 13.75" length of pull by removing the installed spacer. The factory low comb can also be removed, and Ruger offers additional spacers and comb options for further adjustment.

The American Gen II incorporates the Ruger Marksman Adjustable™ trigger, which provides a user-adjustable pull weight between 3 and 5 pounds. Ruger’s patented Power Bedding™ integral bedding block system positively locates the receiver while free-floating the barrel.

The action features a three-position tang safety capable of locking the bolt to prevent inadvertent opening while still allowing the rifle to be loaded with the safety engaged. Its one-piece bolt is CNC-machined from stainless steel and uses a three-lug design with a 70-degree bolt throw for ample scope clearance.

An oversized bolt handle improves manipulation and uses a 5/16"-24 thread pattern for easy replacement. The rifle has no traditional iron sights; instead, Ruger installs a one-piece Picatinny scope base at the factory.

At 6.5 pounds and 41.25 inches overall, Model 46909 provides a relatively lightweight .223 Remington hunting and sporting rifle with the added benefit of a 10-round AR-style magazine. Ruger currently lists the rifle as Available with a suggested retail price of $769.00.
