The Ruger New Model Blackhawk® Convertible Model 0446 is a versatile single-action revolver capable of firing both .45 Colt and .45 Auto ammunition through its two interchangeable cylinders. Featuring a 4.62-inch cold hammer-forged barrel, six-round capacity, blued alloy-steel construction, adjustable sights, and black checkered hard-rubber grips, Model 0446 combines classic Blackhawk styling with the flexibility of two popular centerfire cartridges.
The defining feature of Model 0446 is its convertible-cylinder design. Ruger includes both a standard .45 Colt cylinder and a separate .45 Auto cylinder, and the two can be interchanged without tools. This allows the owner to switch between the traditional rimmed .45 Colt cartridge and the widely available rimless .45 Auto cartridge using the same revolver.
The revolver features a 4.62-inch cold hammer-forged barrel with a 1:16" right-hand twist and six grooves. Ruger uses cold hammer forging to produce precise rifling intended to deliver excellent accuracy and long barrel life.
Model 0446 is manufactured from alloy steel with a traditional blued finish and fitted with black checkered hard-rubber grips. Ruger's western-style, hand-filling grip profile provides the classic appearance and natural-pointing characteristics associated with the Blackhawk series.
For sighting, Ruger equips the 0446 with a ramp front sight and adjustable rear sight. This adjustable sighting system provides greater flexibility than traditional fixed-sight single-action revolvers and allows the shooter to regulate the sights for different loads.
Modern safety features are incorporated into the traditional single-action design through Ruger's transfer-bar mechanism and loading-gate interlock, providing additional protection against accidental discharge.
At 39 ounces and 10.50 inches overall, the Model 0446 offers a relatively compact Blackhawk configuration while retaining full six-round capacity.
