The Ruger American Rifle Generation II Standard Model 46917 is a modern 7mm PRC bolt-action rifle designed for hunting and long-range applications. This exact configuration combines a 20-inch cold hammer-forged spiral-fluted barrel, 3-round capacity, Gray Splatter adjustable stock, Gun Metal Gray Cerakote finish, threaded muzzle with factory radial-port brake, Marksman Adjustable trigger, and factory-installed Picatinny scope base. Ruger confirms Model 46917 / UPC 736676469178.
Chambered in 7mm PRC, Model 46917 uses a 20-inch medium-contour barrel with deep spiral fluting. Ruger states that the fluting reduces weight toward the muzzle to improve balance while retaining barrel stiffness and accuracy. The cold hammer-forged barrel has a 1:8" right-hand twist with five grooves, providing the fast twist commonly desired for the heavier, high-ballistic-coefficient projectiles associated with the 7mm PRC.
The muzzle is threaded 5/8"-24 and comes from the factory with a radial-port muzzle brake. Ruger applies Gun Metal Gray Cerakote to the barrel, muzzle brake, receiver, and bolt handle, providing a durable and easy-to-maintain protective finish.
Model 46917 uses Ruger's redesigned Gray Splatter Gen II American stock. Its textured splatter finish provides additional grip without being excessively sharp or abrasive. A soft rubber recoil pad incorporates a progressively collapsing design intended to help reduce felt recoil.
The Gen II stock also offers considerable fit adjustment. Length of pull can be configured from 12 inches to 13.75 inches by removing the installed spacer, with additional accessory spacers available. Ruger also installs a removable low comb designed to improve alignment when using magnified optics.
The rifle is equipped with the Ruger Marksman Adjustable™ trigger, providing a user-adjustable pull weight between 3 and 5 pounds. Ruger's Power Bedding™ integral bedding block system positively locates the receiver while free-floating the barrel.
Another major Gen II improvement is the three-position tang safety. The system can lock the bolt to prevent inadvertent opening while still allowing the rifle to be loaded with the safety engaged.
The one-piece bolt is CNC-machined from stainless steel and incorporates Ruger's three-lug design with a 70-degree bolt throw, providing additional clearance around a mounted scope. An oversized bolt handle improves manipulation and uses a 5/16"-24 thread pattern, allowing compatible replacement bolt handles to be installed.
Model 46917 feeds from a 3-round single-stack magazine and includes one magazine. The rifle has no traditional iron sights; instead, Ruger installs a one-piece Picatinny scope base at the factory. Steel sling swivel studs are also included.
At 6.5 pounds and 41.75 inches overall, the Ruger American Gen II 46917 offers the ballistic capability of the 7mm PRC in a relatively lightweight hunting rifle. Ruger also offers an optional stock weight kit capable of adding up to 1.6 pounds to the buttstock for recoil management or balancing heavier muzzle devices.
