The Ruger Mark IV™ Target Model 40101 is a precision-built .22 LR semi-automatic rimfire pistol that combines the accuracy of a 5.50-inch cold hammer-forged bull barrel with the modern convenience of Ruger's innovative one-button takedown system. Featuring a 10+1-round capacity, blued alloy-steel receiver, CNC-machined aluminum grip frame, adjustable target sights, and checkered synthetic grips, the 40101 is an excellent choice for target shooting, training, plinking, and competition.
At the heart of the Mark IV Target is its 5.50-inch bull barrel, cold hammer-forged for precise rifling, exceptional accuracy, and long service life. The heavy barrel profile provides excellent balance and minimizes movement during slow-fire target shooting while maintaining Ruger's reputation for dependable rimfire performance.
The pistol features a blued alloy-steel receiver paired with a precision CNC-machined aluminum grip frame, keeping weight to a manageable 35.6 ounces while maintaining excellent durability. Replaceable checkered synthetic grip panels provide a secure, comfortable grip with the classic Ruger Mark-series grip angle preferred by many target shooters.
One of the biggest improvements of the Mark IV platform is Ruger's simple one-button takedown. With the push of a button at the rear of the frame, the barrel-receiver assembly tilts upward and separates from the grip frame, allowing quick field stripping and straightforward chamber-to-muzzle cleaning without tools.
Model 40101 comes equipped with a fixed front sight and fully adjustable rear sight, allowing shooters to fine-tune windage and elevation for different ammunition. The receiver is also drilled and tapped for a Weaver- or Picatinny-style optics rail, making it easy to mount a red dot or pistol scope. Ruger's internal cylindrical bolt design keeps the sights permanently aligned with the barrel rather than mounting them on a reciprocating slide.
Additional features include an ambidextrous manual safety, ergonomic bolt stop, left-side push-button magazine release, and a magazine disconnect safety. The safety can be converted to left-side-only operation using the included washer, while magazines are designed to drop free for fast reloads. Ruger includes two 10-round magazines with the pistol.
Combining a 5.5-inch bull barrel, adjustable target sights, optics-ready receiver, lightweight aluminum grip frame, and Ruger's easy one-button takedown, the Ruger Mark IV Target 40101 continues the legacy of one of America's most respected rimfire target pistols.
