The Ruger Mark IV™ Target Model 40103 is a premium .22 LR semi-automatic rimfire pistol built for target and recreational shooting. Featuring a 5.50-inch cold hammer-forged bull barrel, 10+1 capacity, all-stainless-steel construction, adjustable rear sight, and checkered synthetic grips, Model 40103 combines the substantial feel of a traditional target pistol with the easy maintenance and modern controls of Ruger’s Mark IV platform.
Model 40103 is constructed with both a stainless-steel receiver and a one-piece, precision CNC-machined stainless-steel grip frame, finished in Satin Stainless. This all-steel construction gives the pistol a substantial 42.8-ounce weight, providing a steady, balanced feel well suited to deliberate target shooting.
At the heart of the pistol is a 5.50-inch cold hammer-forged bull barrel. Ruger states that its cold hammer-forging process produces precise rifling for accuracy and longevity. The barrel uses a 1:16" right-hand twist with six grooves.
For sighting, the Mark IV Target 40103 features a fixed front sight paired with an adjustable rear sight. The receiver is also drilled and tapped for a Weaver- or Picatinny-style rail, giving owners the option of adding a compatible optics mounting system.
Ruger’s internal cylindrical bolt design keeps the sights permanently aligned with the barrel rather than placing them on a conventional reciprocating slide. Easy-to-grasp bolt ears and a contoured ejection port contribute to straightforward operation.
One of the defining features of the Mark IV generation is Ruger’s one-button takedown system. Pressing the button at the rear of the frame allows the barrel and receiver assembly to tilt upward and separate from the grip frame without tools, greatly simplifying field stripping and chamber-to-muzzle cleaning.
The pistol features a smoothly contoured grip with a natural-pointing grip angle and replaceable checkered synthetic grip panels. Additional controls include an ambidextrous manual safety, ergonomic bolt stop, and left-side push-button magazine release. The safety can also be converted to left-side-only operation using the included washer.
Model 40103 incorporates a magazine disconnect, preventing discharge when the magazine has been removed, and the magazines are designed to drop free when released. Ruger includes two 10-round magazines with the pistol.
With its 5.5-inch bull barrel, stainless-steel frame and receiver, adjustable sights, optics-ready receiver, and 42.8-ounce weight, the Ruger Mark IV Target 40103 offers a classic target-pistol configuration combined with the convenient maintenance features of the Mark IV platform.
