The Ruger Mark IV™ Competition Model 40112 is a premium .22 LR semi-automatic rimfire pistol designed with target and competition shooting in mind. Featuring a substantial 6.88-inch cold hammer-forged slab-sided bull barrel, all-stainless-steel construction, checkered laminate thumbrest grips, adjustable sights, and a 10+1 capacity, the 40112 is one of the most purpose-built target configurations in the Mark IV family.
At the heart of Model 40112 is its 6.88-inch slab-sided bull barrel. Ruger cold hammer-forges the barrel to produce precise rifling for accuracy and longevity. The heavy barrel profile, combined with the pistol's stainless-steel grip frame, brings overall weight to 45.8 ounces, providing a substantial, steady feel for deliberate target shooting.
The pistol is manufactured with a stainless-steel receiver and stainless-steel grip frame, both finished in Satin Stainless. Unlike polymer-framed 22/45 models, the Competition uses a solid stainless grip frame and Ruger's traditional Mark-series grip angle. Ruger equips the pistol with checkered laminate grips featuring a thumbrest, providing a comfortable, non-slip gripping surface suited to precision shooting.
For sighting, Model 40112 features a fixed front sight paired with an adjustable rear sight. The receiver is also drilled and tapped for a Weaver- or Picatinny-style rail, allowing installation of a compatible optics mount. Ruger's internal cylindrical bolt design keeps the sights permanently aligned with the barrel rather than mounting them on a conventional reciprocating slide.
One of the Mark IV platform's signature improvements is its one-button takedown system. Pressing the button at the rear of the frame allows the barrel-receiver assembly to tilt upward and separate from the grip frame without tools, making field stripping and chamber-to-muzzle cleaning significantly easier.
The pistol also incorporates an ambidextrous manual safety that can be converted to left-side-only operation with the included washer, an ergonomic bolt stop, and a conveniently located left-side push-button magazine release. Magazines drop free when released, and a magazine disconnect prevents the pistol from firing when the magazine has been removed.
Model 40112 ships with two 10-round magazines. At 11.12 inches overall, 45.8 ounces, and 1.75 inches wide, the Mark IV Competition is intentionally substantial, giving target shooters a stable platform with the accuracy-oriented features expected from Ruger's Competition configuration.
