The Ruger Security-9 Compact Model 3829 is a compact 9mm Luger semi-automatic pistol designed around easy handling, straightforward controls, and Ruger’s Secure Action™ fire-control system. This particular configuration features a 10+1 capacity, external manual safety, 3.42-inch barrel, and Hogue® Beavertail™ HandALL® grip sleeve, making it a compact alternative to the full-size Security-9.
The Security-9 Compact uses Ruger’s Secure Action™ fire-control system, which combines a protected internal hammer with a bladed-safety trigger. According to Ruger, the system provides a short, smooth trigger pull with a clean break and positive reset. The internal hammer also provides strong ignition force while allowing easier slide manipulation than many striker-fired designs.
Model 3829 features a 3.42-inch alloy-steel barrel with a blued finish and a through-hardened alloy-steel slide finished in black oxide. Beneath the slide is a precision-machined, hard-coat-anodized aluminum chassis with full-length guide rails, while the grip frame is constructed from high-performance glass-filled nylon.
One of the distinguishing features of Model 3829 is its Hogue® Beavertail™ HandALL® grip sleeve. The sleeve incorporates Hogue's Cobblestone™ texturing, finger grooves, and gentle palm swells to provide a comfortable and secure gripping surface.
For sighting, Ruger equips the pistol with a dovetailed, high-visibility sight system consisting of a fixed front sight and drift-adjustable rear sight. The sights can also be changed for different color options available separately. Front cocking serrations provide additional purchase when manipulating the slide.
Safety features include an external manual safety, integrated trigger safety, neutrally balanced sear with significant engagement and spring tension, and a hammer catch designed to prevent the hammer from contacting the firing pin unless the trigger is pulled. Takedown requires no special tools and does not require pulling the trigger.
At just 6.52 inches long, 4.35 inches high, and 22.5 ounces, the Security-9 Compact 3829 provides a relatively compact 9mm platform while retaining a full set of user-friendly controls. Ruger includes two 10-round alloy-steel magazines with the pistol.
