The Ruger Security-9 Compact Model 3818 is a compact 9mm Luger semi-automatic pistol designed around simple operation, manageable dimensions, and Ruger’s proven Secure Action™ fire-control system. With a 3.42-inch barrel, 10+1 capacity, external manual safety, drift-adjustable sights, and two included magazines, the 3818 provides the core features of the Security-9 platform in a compact package.
Ruger constructs the Security-9 Compact with a through-hardened alloy-steel slide finished in black oxide and an alloy-steel barrel with a blued finish. The grip frame is manufactured from high-performance glass-filled nylon, helping keep overall weight to just 21.9 ounces. Inside the pistol is a precision-machined, hard-coat-anodized aluminum chassis featuring full-length guide rails.
At the heart of the Model 3818 is Ruger’s Secure Action™ fire-control system. The system combines a protected internal hammer with a bladed-safety trigger, providing a short, smooth trigger pull with a clean break and positive reset. The internal hammer also provides strong ignition force while allowing easier slide manipulation compared with many striker-fired pistols.
The compact grip frame features molded texturing designed to provide a secure and comfortable grip. Front cocking serrations offer an additional gripping surface for slide manipulation, while the pistol's compact 6.52-inch overall length and 4.35-inch height make it compatible with a variety of available holsters.
For sighting, Ruger equips the 3818 with a dovetailed high-visibility sight system consisting of a fixed front sight and drift-adjustable rear sight. The sights can also be changed for alternative color options available separately.
Safety features include an external manual safety, integrated trigger safety, neutrally balanced sear with significant engagement and strong spring tension, and a hammer catch designed to help prevent the hammer from contacting the firing pin unless the trigger is pulled. Ruger also designed the Security-9 for straightforward takedown without special tools or requiring a trigger pull.
Model 3818 ships with two 10-round alloy-steel magazines.
