The Ruger American Rifle Generation II Standard Model 46914 is a modern .270 Winchester bolt-action rifle that builds on the original Ruger American platform with an upgraded stock system, spiral-fluted barrel, Cerakote finish, adjustable trigger, three-position safety, threaded muzzle, and factory-installed Picatinny scope base. Ruger confirms this exact configuration as Model 46914 / UPC 736676469147.
Chambered in .270 Winchester, Model 46914 features a 20-inch cold hammer-forged, medium-contour barrel. Deep spiral fluting reduces weight toward the muzzle while maintaining barrel stiffness, helping improve the rifle's overall balance. The barrel uses a 1:10" right-hand twist with five grooves.
The barrel, receiver, bolt handle, and factory muzzle brake receive Ruger's Gun Metal Gray Cerakote finish, providing increased resistance to corrosion and wear. The threaded muzzle uses a 5/8"-24 thread pattern and comes from the factory with a radial-port muzzle brake.
One of the major Generation II upgrades is the redesigned Gray Splatter synthetic stock. Ruger applies a textured splatter finish intended to provide additional grip without creating an overly abrasive surface. The stock also incorporates a soft rubber recoil pad designed to progressively collapse and help reduce felt recoil.
The stock provides an adjustable length of pull from 12 to 13.75 inches. Removing the factory-installed spacer shortens the length of pull to 12 inches, while additional accessory spacers are available for further adjustment. The installed low comb is removable, allowing the stock configuration to be tailored to different optic and sight heights.
The American Gen II retains Ruger's Power Bedding™ integral bedding block system, which positively locates the receiver while free-floating the barrel. The rifle also uses the Ruger Marksman Adjustable™ trigger, which allows the shooter to adjust trigger pull between 3 and 5 pounds.
Another Generation II improvement is the three-position tang safety. The system can lock the bolt to help prevent inadvertent opening while still allowing the rifle to be loaded with the safety engaged.
The rifle's one-piece bolt is CNC-machined from stainless steel and uses Ruger's familiar three-lug design with a 70-degree bolt throw, providing additional clearance around a mounted scope. An oversized bolt handle improves manipulation and uses a 5/16"-24 thread pattern, allowing the handle to be replaced or customized.
Model 46914 feeds from a 4-round flush-fit magazine and includes one magazine. It comes without traditional iron sights, instead featuring a factory-installed one-piece Picatinny scope base. At 6.5 pounds with an overall length of 41.75 inches, it provides a relatively lightweight full-size hunting-rifle configuration.
