The Ruger Mark IV™ Hunter Model 40160 is a premium .22 LR semi-automatic rimfire pistol designed around precision shooting, traditional styling, and the easy maintenance of Ruger’s Mark IV platform. Featuring a 6.88-inch cold hammer-forged fluted bull barrel, all-stainless-steel construction, target laminate grips, fiber-optic front sight, and adjustable rear sight, Model 40160 provides a substantial, accuracy-oriented configuration for target and recreational shooting.
The centerpiece of the Mark IV Hunter is its 6.88-inch fluted bull barrel. Ruger cold hammer-forges the barrel to produce precise rifling designed for accuracy and longevity. The bull-barrel profile provides additional mass for a steady sight picture, while the fluting adds distinctive styling to the Hunter configuration.
Model 40160 is constructed with a stainless-steel receiver and one-piece, precision CNC-machined stainless-steel grip frame, both finished in Satin Stainless. Ruger pairs this construction with smoothly contoured wood laminate target grips featuring wraparound finger grooves, providing a comfortable and secure grip designed for precision shooting.
For sighting, Ruger equips the Hunter with a highly visible fiber-optic front sight and adjustable rear sight. The receiver is also drilled and tapped for a Weaver- or Picatinny-style rail, allowing the installation of a compatible optics mounting system. Ruger's internal cylindrical bolt design keeps the sights permanently aligned with the barrel rather than placing them on a conventional reciprocating slide.
One of the Mark IV platform's defining features is Ruger's one-button takedown system. Pressing the button at the rear of the frame allows the barrel-receiver assembly to tilt upward and separate from the grip frame without tools, simplifying field stripping and chamber-to-muzzle cleaning.
Additional features include an ambidextrous manual safety that can be converted to left-side-only operation with the included washer, an ergonomic bolt stop, and a conveniently positioned left-side push-button magazine release. Magazines drop free when released, while a magazine disconnect prevents discharge when the magazine has been removed.
Ruger includes two 10-round magazines with Model 40160. At 11.12 inches overall and 44.2 ounces, the Mark IV Hunter provides a substantial shooting platform combining a long fluted bull barrel, premium laminate grips, excellent factory sights, optics capability, and Ruger's simplified Mark IV takedown system.
